Junior hockey is returning to the Highlands next year, with the Haliburton County Huskies set to join the Provincial Junior Hockey League (PJHL) for the 2027-28 season.

News of the team’s return was shared in posts to the organization’s social media platforms Monday (Sept. 28).

“Haliburton County, we are happy to announce that the Haliburton Huskies are coming back for the 2027-28 season, joining the PJHL,” the statement reads. “You’ll see plenty of familiar faces around the organization, along with some new ones joining the group. We’re glad to be bringing junior hockey back to the community and can’t wait to get started.”

The PJHL is Ontario’s Jr. C hockey league, containing 61 franchises. It runs four conferences and eight divisions, with the Huskies set to join the North Conference’s Orr Division.

The previous Jr. A franchise that played out of S.G. Nesbitt Memorial Arena in Minden from fall 2021 to spring 2026 relocated to Cobourg over the summer.

Former owner and coach, Ryan Ramsay, confirmed this week he isn’t involved with the relaunch. He said the Huskies uniforms, paid for by the previous regime, would be gifted to the new owners.

The Highlander understands it is a small group of local business owners investing in the team but could not confirm their identity as of press time.
